Sustainable aviation fuel

OMV and AEG Fuels launch sustainable aviation fuel at Vienna Airport.

Vienna (OTS) – In line with its new strategy, OMV is supplying airlines at Vienna Airport with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on demand. AEG Fuels supports easy access to SAF for airlines through its technology platform and proprietary distribution channels.
OMV and AEG Fuels are looking to contribute actively to reducing the aviation industry's carbon footprint.

OMV and Associated Energy Group, LLC (AEG Fuels) are working together to distribute locally produced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) made by OMV in Austria. The two companies have agreed to market an on-demand quantity of SAF in 2022 so that end-users – primarily airlines – can use the product as an alternative to conventional jet fuel at Vienna Airport.

SAF is produced at the OMV Schwechat refinery by blending used cooking oil collected by the Austrian specialist Münzer Bioindustrie GmbH. This approach means the complete supply chain is based on regional criteria wherever possible, and reduces transport distances to a minimum. Compared to conventional aviation fuel, SAF cuts greenhouse gas emissions by more than 80 percent over the life-cycle. From a technical viewpoint, SAF offers the advantage that the existing infrastructure can be used for storage and refuelling.
