Energy from waste

Used cooking oil (UCO) should not be disposed of with general household waste or poured down the drain. Instead, it can be collected separately and used as a raw material for the production of BioDiesel.

With our convenient UCO collection system, used cooking oil from private households can be collected and disposed of properly. This also helps prevent used cooking oil from entering the sewage system. Even small quantities of used cooking oil can be collected separately. Once collected, the used cooking oil can be processed and used as a raw material for BioDiesel production.

# How to collect used cooking oil properly

Proper used cooking oil collection

Step 1

Empty plastic oil bottles or cooking oil canisters are best suited for collecting used cooking oil (UCO). No glass please!

Allow the used cooking oil (UCO) to cool and pour it into the empty plastic bottle or tin canister.

Close the full bottle tightly and throw it into the nearest Münzer Box in your neighbourhood. The diameter of the opening is 19 cm.

Used cooking oil is a valuable raw material: each kilogram processed into BioDiesel can save up to approx. 3 kg of CO₂ equivalent* compared to fossil diesel. What's more, by using our simple collection system near you, you help protect the sewage system.

*The stated figure is a theoretical model value in accordance with RED II/III and applies to BioDiesel made from 100% pure used cooking oil. As virgin vegetable oil is also added in our production process, the actual CO₂ savings are lower.

What is the Münzer Box?

The Münzer Box is a container specially developed by Münzer for the safe and clean disposal of used cooking oil. The clever and practical design includes a 19 cm diameter opening through which bottles can be thrown down a pipe into the container inside. A leak-proof base prevents oil and fat from escaping. The Münzer Boxes also have a sensor that monitors the fill level and ensures that full containers are collected promptly. 
 

What happens to the collected used cooking oil (UCO)?

The Münzer Boxes are reliably emptied by our in-house logistics and collection fleet. Only cleaned and emptied bins are left in each neighbourhood.

The waste cooking oil collected is then transported directly to one of the company's BioDiesel plants at the Lobau oil terminal in Vienna and in Gaishorn am See in Styria, where it is treated and subsequently processed into high-grade BioDiesel. We should stress that we strictly avoid the use of palm oil in our BioDiesel production!

Are cooking oil bottles subject to the single-use deposit?

No, plastic cooking oil bottles are excluded from the new single-use deposit regulation. The deposit applies exclusively to beverage bottles and cans marked with the official single-use deposit logo. Used cooking oils and fats can still be disposed of as usual in empty plastic cooking oil bottles using our collection boxes.
