Future Magazine: “We are committed to a strong EU”
The current issue of Future magazine features Münzer Bioindustrie as a best-practice model of an internationally successful company. In this interview, our CEO Ewald-Marco Münzer talks about our unique pathway to international expansion, and explains the advantages of the European Union for Münzer as an exporter.
Münzer Bioindustrie – a Styrian company keen to expand on the international stage. With more than 20 sites on three continents (Europe, Asia, Africa), we are one of the most successful international industrial companies benefiting from the European Union.
The online magazine Future, published by the Federation of Austrian Industries and the Styrian Chamber of Commerce, asked Ewald-Marco Münzer for an interview. Here is a brief extract from the interview.
What prompted you to start operating outside Austria?
Our international expansion came about unexpectedly. Eight years ago, the Indian Oil Minister was visiting Vienna on the occasion of an OPEC meeting and wanted to tour a biodiesel plant. Fortunately, we were selected. There was great interest in adopting the expertise that we have built up over three decades in Austria and adapting it to local conditions. We then gradually established a functioning collection system in India, and in 2018 built a biodiesel production plant in Mumbai. Due to its success, we soon received enquiries from Bangladesh and Kenya to bring our experience to those markets too.
Why have you also taken on a role at EU level as President of the European Waste-based & Advanced Biofuels Association (EWABA)?
My commitment stems from the conviction that a strong and well-functioning European Union is in the interests of all businesses. Through my work at EU level, I can help to represent the concerns of companies in our sector and help shape policy decision-making that has a direct impact on it. Dialogue with other industry representatives, and cooperation with the European institutions, enables me to play an active role in creating a competitive and sustainable economic environment.
