Collection boxes in Kreuztal and Hilchenbach
Münzer Germany is continuing to expand its sustainable used cooking oil collection system: New collection boxes for used cooking oil have been set up in the towns of Kreuztal and Hilchenbach in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district to enable citizens to dispose of their used cooking oil in a simple and environmentally friendly way. The boxes supplement the already established network in North Rhine-Westphalia, which already includes the cities of Remscheid, Wuppertal, Erndtebrück and Hilden.
Partnership for climate protection
At the official launch in Kreuztal, city treasurer Michael Kass emphasised the importance of the new collection points: ‘Climate protection starts with small, everyday decisions. The opportunity to dispose of used cooking fat here in Kreuztal and thus contribute to environmental protection is an important step for our town and its citizens.’
In Hilchenbach, Annette Branß, Christine Bülow and Rafael Schulte from the town council welcomed the initiative as a further contribution to the municipal sustainability strategy. ‘With the help of the collection boxes, we are not only making a contribution to climate protection, but also promoting responsible waste disposal. This option is now available in an uncomplicated way - a practical solution that supports environmental protection and sewer protection in equal measure,’ explained Rafael Schulte.
Simple, sustainable, effective
‘Simply pour the used grease into an empty bottle and dispose of it in our collection box,’ explains Albert Bechtoldt from Münzer Deutschland GmbH. The collected fat is then processed into biodiesel, which enables a significant reduction in CO2. ‘Just one kilogramme of used cooking oil means a saving of three kilogrammes of CO2 - a valuable contribution to climate protection.’
The system also protects the municipal sewage system from blockages caused by incorrectly disposed of grease. ‘With our collection boxes, we not only offer an environmentally friendly solution, but also a sewer-friendly one,’ emphasises Ewald-Marco Münzer, Managing Director of Münzer Deutschland GmbH.
Successful expansion in NRW
Kreuztal and Hilchenbach are further building blocks in Münzer's plan to expand the network of collection centres in NRW. ‘The positive response in cities such as Remscheid and Wuppertal shows us that we are on the right track. We are endeavouring to roll out our collection system further,’ says Münzer.
