Münzer Bioindustrie GmbH launches in Germany

13. May 2024

Austria's leading collector of used cooking oil and producer of biodiesel is now rolling out its tried and tested collection system in Germany. The containers placed all around the district of Heusenstamm make the proper disposal of used cooking oil easier than ever before.

The collection containers are located in easily accessible public places, and offer the public the facility to dispose of their used cooking oil conveniently in their own neighbourhood at any time. Once the oil has cooled, they pour it into empty plastic bottles which they throw into the collection containers. This innovative solution makes the proper disposal of used cooking oil easier than ever before.

Pioneering in Germany

The Austrian family business is thus pioneering a new approach in Germany. It is the first private service provider to systematically undertake the collection of this supposed waste material. “Our mission, while collecting used cooking oil in Germany is to raise awareness of the need for responsible use of resources in order to drive forward decarbonisation and help create a carbon-neutral Germany,” explains Ewald-Marco Münzer, co-owner of Münzer Bioindustrie GmbH and CEO of Münzer Germany.

Used cooking oil turned into biodiesel

The collected waste cooking oil is transported to Münzer Germany’s headquarters location in Wuppertal, where it is processed into sustainable biodiesel. This saves up to 93 percent of the CO2 emissions compared to fossil diesel, thereby actively helping to cut pollution of the environment.

“The more used cooking oil we collect, the more biodiesel we can produce, and the greater the environmental benefit will be. We are delighted to be launching this project in Heusenstamm as a best-practice model. The plan is to gradually roll out the collection system to urban centres throughout Germany. That is the next logical step in view of the introduction of the B10 fuel grade at Germany's filling stations,” says Ewald-Marco Münzer.

Here are the locations of the yellow Münzer Boxes for the Heusenstamm locals: Recycling centre (Am Zwerggewann 6-8); Rembrücken sports ground car park (tegut ...teo) and at the glass container locations in Waldesruhe; Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Strasse; the REWE car park in Werner-von Siemens-Strasse; Am Lindenbaum; Frankfurter Strasse and Lerchenstrasse. More potential sites are under consideration.
