New collection boxes for used cooking oil in Langen and Egelsbach

Protects the environment, sewer system and budget
New collection system in Langen & Egelsbach: Collection boxes enable simple, environmentally friendly disposal of used cooking oil.
Protection for the sewage system & budget: blockages and high cleaning costs are avoided.
From kitchen waste to valuable raw material: Collected fat is processed into biodiesel and helps to reduce CO2 emissions.
With the official inauguration of the new Münzer collection boxes, local authorities are sending out a clear signal for the sustainable and cost-efficient disposal of used cooking oil. The innovative system offers citizens a simple and environmentally friendly way to dispose of used cooking oil properly - an urgently needed measure to prevent damage to the sewer system and reduce wastewater treatment costs.
Used cooking oil in the drain: an underestimated danger
Despite widespread warnings, used cooking oil still ends up in the drain far too often - with serious consequences. Even small amounts of grease can lead to blockages in the sewer system as they combine with other waste and form hard deposits, so-called "grease mountains". These not only cause high cleaning costs for local authorities, but also ecological damage. Studies show that the improper disposal of cooking fats in Germany alone costs millions every year for the maintenance of sewer networks.
"With the new collection of used cooking fats and oils, we are offering citizens a good disposal option without a great deal of effort," says Langen's mayor Jan Werner. "The eleven collection bins in our town are within easy reach, so everyone can do something good for the environment when running their daily errands."
Tobias Wilbrand, Mayor of Egelsbach, also underlines the importance of the initiative: "This project once again demonstrates the benefits of the inter-municipal cooperation that we have created with ALEG. In our compact municipality, the two collection containers are centrally located at the recycling collection point and are therefore also very easy to reach."
From kitchen waste to sustainable energy source
The used cooking oil collected is processed into biodiesel by Münzer Germany in a specialized process. This environmentally friendly fuel helps to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector. "Our collection system turns a problematic material into a valuable resource," explains Albert Bechtoldt, Sales Manager at Münzer Germany. "Simply pour used cooking oil into an empty, sealable plastic bottle and put it in one of our collection boxes. We'll take care of the rest."
