Collection of used cooking oil in Remscheid, Germany
Münzer Germany expanding collection of used cooking oil: New collection boxes in Remscheid
Münzer Bioindustrie GmbH, one of Austria's leading collectors of used cooking oil, is expanding its operations in Germany. Following the successful launch of its first collection boxes in Heusenstamm, new collection containers are now also being installed in Remscheid in the neighbouring state of North Rhine-Westphalia. They are located at the central recycling facility at 14 Solinger Strasse, and directly in front of the Remscheid municipal services building at 48 Nordstrasse.
“They offer the public an easy, environmentally friendly way to dispose of their used cooking oil,” explains project manager Johann Trojan. “Just pour the used fat into an empty bottle and dispose of it in our box. It's as easy as that.”
Axel Raue, head of the Remscheid municipal services corporation, adds: “We are confident that by this commitment we are making a contribution to the sustainable re-use of cooking oil and to the circular economy in general. I also hope to see at least a marginal impact on the sewer system in terms of reduced pollution. I hope that the people of Remscheid will support this environmental project.”
The Münzer collection boxes are emptied regularly, with the collected waste cooking oil being processed into sustainable renewable fuel for both road and air transport. The use of renewable fuels in the transport sector benefits the process of decarbonising it. "Everyone who disposes of their used cooking oil with us is thus making a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and so helping to protect our climate," explains CEO Ewald-Marco Münzer.
As he reports, Münzer is intending to extend the network of collection points to other town and cities around Germany in future: “By expanding our collection point network in North Rhine-Westphalia, we have taken an important step towards establishing a sustainable waste management system. The task now is to roll it out consistently throughout Germany.”
