Münzer expands into Germany

04. Oktober 2024

Münzer - as the leading used cooking oil collector and biodiesel producer in Austria - is now rolling out its tried-and-tested collection system for households in Germany to make the correct disposal of used cooking oil in our collection boxes as easy as possible. This is real pioneering work in Germany.

Launch in Heusenstamm / Hesse

Following the successful start of the installation of the first collection boxes in Heusenstamm in Hesse in mid-May, our colleagues Albert Bechtoldt and Johannes Kallien also installed new collection containers in the Offenbach district at the beginning of July. In co-operation with the municipalities / towns and their service companies, our collection boxes have been placed at supermarkets and material yards. This means that the collection containers are located in easily accessible public places and offer citizens the opportunity to dispose of their used cooking oil conveniently and at any time in their neighbourhood.

Pioneering work in Germany

As an Austrian family business, we are thus doing pioneering work in Germany. We are the first private service provider to systematically take on the collection of this supposed waste material, which is an important raw material for us.
‘Our mission is to collect used cooking oil in Germany and at the same time raise awareness for the responsible use of resources in order to contribute to decarbonisation and a CO2-neutral Germany,’ says project manager Johann Trojan, proud of the successful start in Germany and wanting to gradually roll out the collection to metropolitan areas throughout Germany.

After Hesse also in North Rhine-Westphalia

And last week, the first project was launched in the neighbouring state of North Rhine-Westphalia with Technische Betriebe Remscheid.

Axel Raue, head of Technische Betriebe Remscheid, explains: ‘We are confident that this will make a contribution to the sustainable utilisation of edible fats and the circular economy. Furthermore, I hope to see at least a minimal effect in the recycling of contaminants in the sewerage sector. I hope that the people of Remscheid will support this environmental project.’

Austria as a best practice model

With the introduction of our collection system in Germany, which has been tried and tested in Austria, we are setting a new standard for sustainable used cooking oil disposal in Germany. Our big neighbour is the first private service provider to systematically collect this supposed waste material. Our mission is to collect as much used cooking oil as possible and at the same time raise awareness for the responsible use of resources.
‘By expanding our collection system in North Rhine-Westphalia, we have taken an important step towards establishing a sustainable disposal system. Now we need to roll this out consistently throughout Germany,’ says Johann Trojan, pointing the way forward.
