Visselhövede Launches Münzer Used Cooking Oil Collection Boxes
- Four new collection boxes for used cooking oil across the city area
- A simple everyday system that supports climate action and reduces pressure on sewer infrastructure
- First Münzer collection boxes in northern Lower Saxony – Mayor Lüdemann welcomes the initiative
Just before Christmas, there is good news for both the environment and local infrastructure: the City of Visselhövede is now introducing Münzer Deutschland GmbH’s innovative collection system for used cooking oil. The yellow collection boxes have been installed at four locations across the city – marking the northernmost point of Münzer’s steadily expanding collection network to date.
Mayor André Lüdemann made a point of attending the official launch in person: “We are pleased to offer our citizens a new way to act sustainably in everyday life – uncomplicated, practical, and meaningful.”
Turning Kitchen Leftovers into Climate Action
Whether frying, deep-frying, or baking Christmas cookies – especially during the holiday season, many households generate larger amounts of used cooking oil and fat. What often used to end up down the drain can now be recycled in a sustainable way with just a few simple steps. The principle is straightforward: after cooling, used cooking oil is poured into clean, tightly sealed plastic bottles and dropped into one of the collection boxes. Münzer then empties the boxes in a sensor-controlled, efficient, and climate-friendly manner.
The collected oil is processed in certified facilities into high-quality biodiesel – a fuel that can generate up to 93% lower CO2 emissions than fossil diesel and is already used in the transport sector today.
Four New Locations for Practical Solutions
The collection boxes are placed at easily accessible points across the city – combining everyday routes with central meeting spots. “We bring circular economy directly into daily life – simple, designed for municipalities, and with real impact,” says Albert Bechtoldt, Head of Sales at Münzer Deutschland. “For us, Visselhövede is another milestone and a strong signal that this topic is gaining importance in rural areas as well.”
With Visselhövede, Münzer Deutschland gains another committed municipal partner and moves one step closer to the goal of establishing a comprehensive, citizen-friendly collection system for used cooking oil. In addition to numerous locations in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse, Lower Saxony is already represented by Stadthagen – Visselhövede is now the first location in northern Lower Saxony.
