Münzer Used Cooking Oil Collection Boxes Launch in Erzhausen

04. December 2025
  • New location in Hesse: Four collection boxes for used cooking oil are now available for free use in Erzhausen.
  • Simple, efficient, sustainable: Clean disposal made easy – as part of a lived circular economy.
  • Strong partnership: Erzhausen joins a growing collection network.

Whether frying, baking, or roasting – especially in the run-up to Christmas, many households generate significant amounts of used cooking oil. Instead of being poured down the drain, this oil can now be put to good use in Erzhausen: starting immediately, Münzer used cooking oil collection boxes are available at the REWE supermarket, the former Volksbank site, the recycling center, and the sports hall. The initiative is a joint project between the Municipality of Erzhausen and Münzer Deutschland GmbH, a company specializing in the collection and recycling of used cooking oil.

Easy to Use – Big Impact

Using the boxes is straightforward and free of charge for all residents: cooled used cooking oil – for example frying oil, deep-frying fat, butter residues, or oil from antipasti jars – is poured into clean, tightly sealed plastic bottles (no glass, please) and deposited in the yellow collection boxes. Münzer empties the boxes in a sensor-controlled, demand-based manner. The collected oil is then processed further in certified facilities.

From Kitchen Waste to Biofuel

Used cooking oil is no longer a mere residue – it is a highly sought-after raw material for the production of sustainable biodiesel. When collected and processed properly, studies show it can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 93% compared to fossil diesel. The system also offers clear benefits for the municipality: improperly disposed oil can strain sewer systems, cause buildup, and lead to higher cleaning and maintenance costs.

Erzhausen Becomes Part of a Growing Network

“We are delighted to now be present in Erzhausen as well,” says Albert Bechtoldt, Head of Sales at Münzer Deutschland. “The more municipalities participate, the stronger the impact of our system becomes – for the climate, for local infrastructure, and for a modern, citizen-friendly circular economy.”

Erzhausen now joins a steadily increasing number of cities and communities in Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia that already rely on Münzer boxes – most recently including Haan, Lemgo, Düren, and Bad Laasphe.
