Münzer brings used cooking oil collection to Bad Laasphe

Münzer Deutschland GmbH continues to expand its nationwide collection system for used cooking oil: as of now, six publicly accessible Münzer collection boxes are available to citizens in Bad Laasphe. This makes the town in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district part of a successful concept that combines climate protection, resource conservation, and user-friendly disposal – in line with the principles of a lived circular economy.

Local collection – sustainable reuse

Today, used cooking oil is regarded as a valuable raw material for biodiesel production. When properly collected and processed, studies show it can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 93 percent compared to fossil diesel. At the same time, it relieves pressure on municipal wastewater systems: improperly disposed fats cause blockages, odor problems, and high maintenance costs – challenges that can be avoided with the Münzer collection system.

How the Münzer Box works

For private households, use is not only free of charge but also extremely simple: used cooking oils – from frying, roasting, or antipasti jars – are filled into clean, sealable plastic bottles (no glass!) and deposited in one of the yellow collection boxes. Emptying is carried out by Münzer in a sensor-controlled, eco-friendly, and demand-oriented manner. The collected used cooking oil is then processed into high-quality biodiesel in certified facilities.

Municipal partnership as key to success

The project in Bad Laasphe is part of a growing network: numerous towns and cities in North Rhine-Westphalia – including Düren, Haan, Lemgo, and Herscheid – are already relying on the Münzer system.
