New Used Cooking Oil Collection Points in Melk

26. January 2026

A functioning circular economy starts where sustainability becomes simple and accessible in everyday life. Together with the Municipal Association for Waste Management and Environmental Protection in the Melk district (GVU Melk), Münzer Bioindustry GmbH is taking another important step: new publicly accessible Fett-BehÖLter collection points for used cooking oil and fats from private households are now being rolled out across the district.

These new containers complement the existing collection systems at local recycling centres and create additional low-threshold drop-off options in public spaces. The objective is clear: to make the proper disposal of used cooking oil as convenient as possible and to significantly increase collection volumes at household level.

From Kitchen Waste to Renewable Energy

The used cooking oil collected via the Fett-BehÖLter is regularly collected by Münzer and processed in specialised facilities. What was once considered waste is transformed into high-quality renewable fuels that measurably reduce CO₂ emissions and replace fossil energy sources. In this way, valuable resources remain within the cycle – regionally, efficiently and sustainably.

A Strong Partnership, Further Expanded

The rollout in the Melk district builds on proven cooperation models already implemented in other regions of Lower Austria. Previous pilot projects have demonstrated strong public acceptance and rising collection volumes. The expansion in Melk underlines how effective cooperation between municipalities, environmental associations and industry partners can be when there is a shared commitment to climate protection and responsible resource management.

Through initiatives like this, Münzer, together with its regional partners, actively strengthens the circular economy at local level – and shows how responsible disposal can create tangible environmental and economic value.
